Cutting Down a Tree Yourself

Some people like to take up DIY projects in a small or a large scope. Tree removal is one of the larger projects that you might opt to take up. It is ambitious and brave. After carefully considering all the factors and deciding that cutting the tree yourself is better, you need to embark on the actual tree service process.

Safety Gear
Safety should come first when you are undertaking any project whether or not it involves dangerous equipment. If you decide to cut the tree in your yard yourself, you will be wielding a chain saw which is quite dangerous. Some of the precautions to take include:
·         Kevlar Chaps. These will come in handy when it comes to protecting your feet. If you happen to drop the chain saw, Kevlar chaps will stop it instantly.
·         Logger’s Helmet. You have to wear a hard hat that will stop any debris from hitting your head.  Some debris is inconsequential but you never know when a branch could fall in the wrong direction.
·         Safety Glasses. Your eyes are precious and should be protected against the dust generated by the chain saw.
·         Earmuffs and a face protector. You need to get earmuffs and a face protector to protect you from the noise as well as the dust and particles. This is necessary for your ears, your eyes and your face in general.

Prepare Adequately
After donning your safety gear you also need to get all the equipment that you are going to use in order. It could be an axe, felling wedges or a chain saw. Get them in a convenient place and ensure that everything is in good shape.
In addition to this, you need to prepare your yard. Remove any thing that could get damaged by falling debris. If it is your car, drive it to a safe position that does not fall within the felling zone. If it is a temporary structure, move it out of the way.

Plan Before You Begin
You need to estimate the felling zone and divide the tree service into sections. You do not want your tree to fall on your car or into your neighbor’s back yard. Your plan could follow this structure:
·         Prepare the tree into chunks
·         Prepare the branches that you need to cut first, that is, those that are highest up
·         Cut the main then the minor branches off
·         Cut down the trunk last
